Anniversary
Jamie and I were on our run this morning, and Jamie mentioned that he wanted to do something special for our 5-year anniversary, which is in May. He wants to go on a big trip somewhere. So…question for you all…where should we go?! Europe is probably out…we’ve lived here 3 years nearly, so probably won’t come back that soon, plus we’ll have just moved home a few months prior to that.
We went on our honeymoon to Hawaii (Maui island), so we could go back there, but there’s also a ton of other places to explore! One must…it MUST have good scuba diving, and a range of outdoor activities (hiking, scuba, snorkling, etc.). Thoughts?
So xanga…where do we go on our big trip?

Mexico or the Caribbean!
@ShamrockLover - Eh…both of those would be ok, but they’re more of an “all-inclusive” type of vacation for us (or a cruise). We really want a place where we aren’t surrounded by party people (which is pretty much all the big touristy areas of Mexico), and the Caribbean is really more resort style. We don’t mind resorts, but we really wanted a chance to really see what’s available “outside the compound,” if that makes sense.
There are some fantastic ruins in Mexico we could go climbing at though…hmmm…
I love, LOVED Tennessee! It doesn’t have beach diving, but there’s lake scuba diving
I was totally hesitant to suggest those places because i agree, they are resort style. We’re not a fan of that either. We did one for our honeymoon and it was a huge let down. It was an all adult one, but it just felt trashy to us. I’m sure there are hidden gems that don’t include the resort style, but will probably take some digging! Oh, and we absolutely love San Francisco or Seattle.
@Mad_Wife - Tennessee is absolutely gorgeous, but since we live in Indiana, we’ve been there quite a few times. We both love it, but I think we’re looking for something with more of a tropical climate/atmosphere. We do usually go to Tennessee at least once each summer though…it’s fabulous!
@ShamrockLover - Yeah…I’ve been to a few all-inclusive resorts, including the one in Croatia we just got back from, and one in the Dominican Republic. I really don’t mind them at all, but they don’t tend to offer a huge variety. We’re really not “pool people” at all…in fact, the smell of chlorine usually gives me migraines, so I much prefer the ocean. We have friends in San Franscisco, so we could go visit them, but I think we’re trying to find something much more tropical and “exotic”…if that makes sense? I like the idea of Tahiti or Bora Bora, and Jamie suggested New Zealand, but I think that might be a bit too far (plus it’ll be winter there). Hawaii would probably be the only place in the US we’d consider.

@Mad_Wife - Yep! It’s gorgeous there too…I love it! I pretty much love anywhere near the ocean…I’m set!
@ShamrockLover - We have a friend that lives in Alaska, so we’re definitely going to go visit him next summer as well. I’m super excited, I’d love to live in Alaska!
@PennyLumpkins - See…I am ALL over this…but it’ll be winter there. So, got to wait until it’s winter in the States, and then go!
